VCA, in conjunction with Sands NZ, provides three webinar series each year for midwifery students across the country. It doesn't matter what year you are in or what institution you are studying at, you are welcome to register and join in our webinars. This is our joint effort to contribute to consistent and confident bereavement support for all families and whānau throughout Aotearoa NZ.
While we call them webinars, we run them in the Zoom meeting function so everyone is present on the screen and it's an opportunity for interaction and richer learning. The webinars are a 'cameras-on' event; we don't care what you look like or what your background is, we only care about you learning as much as possible!
Sands NZ generously funds the webinars so that all midwifery students can register, without cost as a barrier. Here is the breakdown of topics for each seasonal webinar series:
Summer School
Grief 101
Sands 3-Point Model of Care
What Should I Say and Not Say?
Pregnancy After Loss
Autumn Series
Early Loss
Perinatal Hospice
Ending a Wanted Pregnancy
Self-Care
Spring Sessions (September & October 2023)
Working with Māori Whānau (with Pania Mitchell)
LGBTQI+ Parents & Baby Loss
Fathers/Partners and Baby Loss
Breaking Bad News
Definitions, Legalities etc
These webinars are rich and full of valuable information for midwifery students, whom we know are often concerned about their lack of information and knowledge in the area of baby loss. We invite bereaved parents to contribute to some of the sessions, and their contributions are the part that students appreciate the most.
If you would like more information about the webinars - email Vicki or text/call on 021-776436
