Once again VCA and Sands NZ have collaborated to bring this series of webinars about aspects of baby loss to midwifery students throughout the motu/country. The webinars will take place on Wednesday mornings (10:00am-11:00am) and Thursday evenings (8:00pm - 9:00pm). The sessions will be led by perinatal and infant loss educator, Vicki Culling, and we'll have input from bereaved parents who are part of the Sands NZ network.

Here are the dates:

Wed 6th & Thurs 7th July 2022- all about postmortem
Wed 13th & Thurs 14th July 2022 - perinatal hospice
Wed 20th & Thurs 21st July 2022 - ending a wanted pregnancy
Wed 27th & Thurs 28th July 2022 - self care for professionals working with baby loss

If you have any questions, please contact Vicki on 021-776436 or vicki@vca.co.nz

Registrations will open in early June - and, thanks to Sands NZ, the Autumn Series will be free for midwifery and nursing students

more details (FAQs)

  • can first year midwifery students participate in any of the webinars?
Yes, while it would be great for first year midwifery students to have done the Summer School , it's still appropriate that they do the Autumn Series and Spring Sessions as well. They might seem intense, but baby loss is intense.

  • will the sessions be recorded so I can see them if I miss the two available Wed and Thurs sessions?
No, we've decided that we won't be recording the webinars. This adds a layer of admin that takes up quite a lot of time, so that's why we are offering two opportunities to attend each of the sessions. Don't worry if you miss out, we'll be repeating them again in 2022.

  • do I get a certificate at the end of the webinars?
Yes, you will receive a certificate for the sessions you attended.
