resources - holding on
These are a small selection of videos and sites you might want to look at if you are considering 'holding on'...
one day more
One Day More is an Irish support group made up of parents who received poor pre-natal prognoses for their babies.

From their website…’Some of our babies died shortly after birth, some before and some fortunately are still with us. We are here to support parents who find themselves in a similar situation.

We are here to offer to support to any parent who has just received a difficult prenatal prognosis for their baby. We found speaking to someone who had already gone through the experience was an enormous help and cannot be under-estimated. We also found that perinatal hospice care made the time we spent with our babies precious.’

perinatal hospice
This is a video created by Tammy Ruiz, a nurse in Washington DC.

It describes the concept of Perinatal Hospice – an approach that walks with families on their journey through pregnancy, birth and death, honouring the baby as well as the baby’s family.

Perinatal Hospice is not a place; it is more a frame of mind. It is a way of caring for the family and all involved with dignity and love.

baby hospice
This is a site for families who are considering continuing a pregnancy knowing their baby’s life will be brief, or who have already begun this journey. It has been created by families who have been there. Even though our baby’s lives were achingly short, they contained love, beauty and value. We want to let you know about some of the things that helped us and hope to offer you a little solace. We honour your experience, your wisdom and your time with your precious baby.

ending a wanted pregnancy
Ending a Wanted Pregnancy is a group of US-based moms and dads who have made the decision to end a wanted pregnancy following a poor prenatal diagnosis or for maternal health reasons. We know what a hard choice this is, and want to reach out with sympathy and support for other parents who have made similar choices. Our Mission is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where parents who have ended wanted pregnancies for medical reasons can find support and sympathy, and grieve their losses together.

TFMR mamas
TFMR Mamas was created by Emma Belle after sadly losing her baby girl, Willow, due to Edwards Syndrome in October 2020.  This loss shattered her heart. After battling with infertility and finally being pregnant after five rounds of fertility treatment, this simply wasn't a position she ever dreamed her and her husband would ever be in. Emma believes that humans are not built to get through their hardest days alone or in isolation and that we heal in community. This is why she created this safe supportive space.

Hearing unexpected news about a baby can be deeply distressing and traumatic. For some families, the hardest part is receiving the news and the future family and expectations are suddenly thrown into question. For others, it is the uncertainty, the decisions they face, or the gaps in care that feel challenging. At times, it is the judgements and assumptions of others that cause the greatest harm.

Through the Unexpected, an Australian organisation, offers information for parents and families, as well as clinicians.

There is a private group on Facebook for those in Aotearoa NZ - TFMR Support NZ (Termination for Medical Reasons)

Terminations Remembered
A new website created by a bereaved mum in the US, who ended a wanted pregnancy in 2107 due to Trisomy 13. Here is the link to the website.
