'Meet My Baby' is a 2025 project that will be launched during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October 2025).
VCA invites bereaved whānau to share your pictures and stories of your precious and beautiful babies so we might develop a beautiful book to share with whānau in hospitals and an online resource with professionals and students.
Why this project? For a number of years, I have heard from bereaved whānau in support meetings and social media about their experiences of not knowing what their baby might look like whilst they were waiting to birth their precious baby - not knowing what to expect and not really being given any information.
These discussions prompted me to consider developing a resource for parents that they can access in hospitals and birthing units throughout Aotearoa NZ. At the same time, I was hearing a similar experience from students and clinicians who were learning about baby loss in my online courses. They noted that their lack of experience meant that they were not able to talk to families about what their babies might look like when born.
The book will contain pictures and stories from families of babies from ** weeks' gestation through to ** weeks' gestation. The online resource will be available through my online learning portal so not available for public viewing.
