There are only three topics for August as I am heading away on holiday from the 4th-13th August. I'll have limited connectivity, so there are no discussion webinars planned for the first two weeks of August.
Here is some more detailed information about the August topics:
MODELS OF CARE In this session we'll cover two models of care specifically for baby loss - the Sands 3-Point Model of Care and the ATTEND model of care. We'll also talk about some concepts relative to bereavement care - moving from 'protect and direct' to 'accept and connect'. And finally, you will learn about some grief models that are helpful to know both in the care you provide and for life in general. DISCUSSION WEBINAR: with Vicki Culling and TBC, Thursday 17 August 2023, 8:00-9:00pm
WHAT SHOULD I SAY AND NOT SAY? In this session we're talking about communication. This is one topic that comes up a lot - people are scared of saying something wrong , of 'making things worse'. So they often don't say anything at all. In this session you'll learn about some things to steer away from (such as platitudes) and you'll learn about the concepts of 'hierarchies of loss' and 'minimisation'. These concepts impact on what we say, so awareness of them makes all the difference. You'll also learn what to do if you say something wrong. DISCUSSION WEBINAR: with bereaved parents, Thursday 24 August 2023, 8:00-9:00pm
MEMORY-MAKING WHEN A BABY DIES In this presentation, you will learn about memory-making for whānau when a baby dies. We'll talk about tangible memories (hand and foot casting, jewellery, photography, clothing) and intangible memories (experiences, smells, touch). We'll hear from those who are in our hospitals making memories with and for bereaved parents and whānau. DISCUSSION WEBINAR: with bereaved parents, Thursday 31 August 2023, 8:00-9:00pm
