Information about the course:
The Baby Loss Essentials online course offers four foundational topics to assist you in caring for and interacting with bereaved parents and whānau. After completing this shorter course, you will have the information, knowledge and resources to more confidently meet with, and care for, bereaved parents, families and whānau in a professional capacity.

TOPICS:

  • Baby Loss in Aotearoa NZ (including baby loss statistics, legalities, definitions, financial entitlements, & navigating support;  this information will enable you to confidently discuss any practical aspects of baby loss with bereaved parents and whānau )
  • Grief and Baby Loss (including the experience of baby loss, secondary losses, grief styles, & some grief models; this knowledge will help you understand what bereaved whānau are experiencing and how you might support them)
  • Language & Communication (including the power of language, what to say and not say, baby loss terminology, & what if I say something wrong?; this knowledge will help you to feel confident in your conversations, helping allay your fear that you'll make the situation 'worse')
  • Pregnancy & Parenting After Loss (including thinking about another pregnancy, coping with a subsequent pregnancy, different outcomes & the paradoxes of parenting after loss; this knowledge will give you a better understanding when you are caring for, supporting or working with parents and whānau who have previously experienced baby loss).

WHAT'S INVOLVED?
The course is made up of four hours of online content with additional downloadable resources. Participants will be invited to join our Professional Series discussion webinars taking place during their eight week course.

PRICING
The cost for the four topics (eight weeks) is $161.00 ($140 + GST of $21.00)

Here is some feedback from the first course offering in 2026...

"This course is excellent! The combination of evidence-based knowledge and personal experiences shared gives so much quality information. It is presented well in a variety of ways. The option of hearing from bereaved parents and asking questions of them directly vastly increased my understanding. If this is an area you work in, access this comprehensive resource."

"Thank you for your thorough presentations - evidenced based, personal stories, statistics, resources and the variety of your presentations. The whakatauki that we started and closed with, to focus on the babies. Access to so much information."
