Sands NZ & VCA invites students who will be working with bereaved whānau upon graduation to join us for the 2025 Student Series. This includes midwifery, nursing, psychology, medical, counselling and sonography students. And we also invite new graduate midwives in their mentorship year.
We will be offering 18 topics over 10 months in 2025. You will have access to online content and also be invited to join our monthly discussion webinars with bereaved whānau.
The 2025 Student Series will start on Monday 3rd February and end on Friday 28th November 2025.
The 18 topics for the full course are -
Grief and Baby Loss; Models of Care; Memory-Making When a Baby Dies; Baby Loss Legalities and Definitions; Self-Care; Caring for Māori Whānau; What Should I Say and Not Say?; Early Loss; Decision-Making Following an Unexpected Diagnosis; Perinatal Hospice; Ending a Wanted Pregnancy; Pregnancy and Parenting After Loss; When a Baby Dies in NICU; Rainbow Inclusive Care in Baby Loss; Fathers/Partners and Baby Loss; Perinatal Pathology; Loss in a Multiple Pregnancy; Informed Pregnancy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New short course for students - Intro to Baby Loss
We're also offering a shorter course for those who have a busy year ahead and know you won't be able to do the whole 18 topics. The Intro to Baby Loss course will cover five essential topics and take 5.5 hours to complete. It will be available from February through to the end of June.
The topics are - Grief and Baby Loss; Baby Loss Legalities & Definitions; Memory-Making When a Baby Dies; What Should I Say & Not Say? and, Self-Care for Professionals Working with Baby Loss.
The 2025 Intro to Baby Loss course will start on Monday 3rd February and end on Friday 27th June 2025.
